Lone Star Analysis Ltd. offers a suite of Decision Science solutions originally designed for NASA and the aerospace industry, now adapted for healthcare. We create patient-led Digital Twins, which model the complexities and uncertainties encountered by healthcare trusts, clinics, clinicians, and patients along the patient care pathway.

These Digital Twins are designed to support both policy-level strategies and day-to-day clinical decisions. Through simulating thousands of patient pathways, we help prioritise population-level healthcare interventions and assist in helping individual patients and clinicians make informed decisions at crucial points in their own care pathway.

CASE STUDY - Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)

In collaboration with the AML Steering Committee, Lone Star Analysis Ltd. has used its Evolved AI© capability to predict whether the NHS is under-referring AML patients for potentially curative bone marrow transplants.

The model takes into account all the uncertainties and variabilities that clinicians and patients are facing across the patient pathway – from diagnosis to transplant. It simulates hundreds of thousands of possible AML patient journeys. This generates ranges for the numbers of patients per year who probably should receive a transplant. This was then compared to actual numbers of transplants over the last 5 years. Our results showed the number of predicted eligible patients represents a 64-96% increase. That is an additional 202 to 305 patients every year.

An abstract on our predictions and methods was published in the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) Journal and was accepted for Oral Presentation at the 2024 EBMT Annual Meeting in Glasgow.
